The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a public health alert is in effect about contaminated chorizo sold at H-E-B. A news release says the affected product is Lean APCO Brand Meats All-Natural Premium Chorizo, with a best-by date of May 12th. The alert concerns possible contamination based on complaints about pieces of hard plastic and metal discovered in the product. USDA officials say there haven't been any injuries or illnesses reported so far. Anybody who bought the product can return it to HEB or throw it away.
