The San Antonio firefighters' union is asking for bigger pay raises than the city is offering. On Thursday, the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association proposed a series of pay hikes that would increase their salaries more than 37% by October 2026. In the first collective bargaining session late last month, the city proposed to raise base pay nearly 22% by January 2029. Union leadership says inflation has grown much faster than their pay. City negotiators say the city can't afford what the firefighters are asking.
