Officer-Involved Shootout Leaves Houston Officer Wounded, Suspect Dead

A burglary suspect is dead and a Houston police officer is injured after an overnight shootout in the southwest part of the city. The Houston Police Department said the officer is expected be okay after he "sustained multiple shots to his arms and legs" plus one shot to his "ballistic vest." HPD Chief Troy Finner didn't identify the officer, but said he was a 17-year veteran and called him "one of our top notch guys." Police were in their vehicle while following the suspect and a woman who were walking towards a shopping center on Harwin Drive a little after 1 a.m. The suspect reportedly fired shots into the patrol car through the window and struck the officer, who fired back and hit the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead and the woman was detained. In addition to burglary, the suspect was wanted for aggravated assault and robbery.
