The Texas Demographic Center says more than two-thirds of the state's 30-million residents live in the metro areas of DFW, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. The population of Texas grew by 4%, or nearly 1.6 million people, between January 2020 and January this year. That includes new births as well as new arrivals from other states or nations. More than half of Texas' counties are experiencing "rural decline," with their deaths outnumbering their births.
