A former Texas appeals court judge is declining an appointment to serve as counsel to the state in the impeachment trial of Attorney General Ken Paxton. On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick selected former Republican justice Marc Brown as an advisor for the upcoming criminal proceedings set to begin September 5th. Brown declined because of a campaign contribution he made in 2021 to a candidate challenging Paxton in the Republican primary. The Texas House impeached Paxton in May on allegations of misconduct.
