Texas A&M's main campus has a new interim president. The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has named Mark Welsh the Third to the position. Welsh steps in for M. Katherine Banks, who resigned in July following the school's bungled employment negotiations with a U-T journalism professor. On Sunday, the board also authorized the system to begin settlement negotiations with Kathleen McElroy, who was offered a position running the new A&M journalism program. The hire fell apart when the university offered McElroy contracts that provided less job security than was originally proposed.
