A new state law is now in effect that provides an additional $683 million for the 50 public community colleges in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 8 on Friday. The bill will award money to junior colleges based on the number of students who complete certain academic requirements and transfer to a four-year university. The bill also creates the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer program to enroll low-income high school students in dual credit courses at no cost.
