Four members of the Gulf Cartel will be released from jail after being sentenced last week in a kidnapping case from 2011. The four cartel members were arrested a decade ago and held in federal custody pending the resolution of their case.

Investigators say the group wound up kidnapping the wrong man in a plan to retaliate for drug thefts in the Alton-Mission area, near McAllen.

The victim disappeared after the kidnapping and has not been heard from since.

The judge in the case sentenced the four men to time served on Friday, saying their cooperation with investigators led to convictions in other criminal cases tried in Texas.
