A proposed bill in the state Senate is stirring up unrest. Senate Bill 147 would bar the governments, citizens, and businesses of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea from buying land in Texas. Hundreds of demonstrators protested the proposal at the Texas Capitol on Sunday, falsely claiming that the bill would keep Texas residents of certain races from buying homes. Several Democratic state lawmakers addressed the crowd, including Rep. Vikki Goodwin of Travis County.
