Operation Lone Star is Texas' way of stopping a surge in illegal immigration, but it's also making some state troopers a lot of cash. The border security program started last year and so far, the Department of Public Safety has paid out $68 million in overtime. Most of that is going to troopers assigned to the border region. State records show two lieutenants racked up roughly $150,000 dollars in overtime alone.
