Fires burning across central Texas are driving hundreds of families from their homes. Fires known as the Eastland Fire Complex, fueled by dry conditions and driven by strong winds, have scorched more than 38-thousand acres so far. Some 475 families have been evacuated from the town of Gorman, about 100 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Evacuation orders are in effect for parts of Eastland, Brown, and Comanche counties. About two hours southwest of the Eastland Fire Complex, an extremely critical fire risk is out for the Permian Basin, including the city of San Angelo.
