Texas "Heartbeat Bill" Becomes Law

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a law banning abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy. Under the bill, an abortion could not take place if a fetal heartbeat is detected. It is one of nation's strictest abortion measures. There is also a provision that allows anybody to sue an abortion provider who they think is violating the law. It takes effect in September. Abortion rights advocates say they will challenge the new law. Governor Greg Abbott, who signed the bill today, says the law saves unborn children.
