San Antonio Bans Pet Store Sales Of Dogs From Breeders

Starting on January 1st, pet stores in San Antonio will no longer be allowed to sell dogs obtained from commercial breeders. City Council voted 9-to-1 on Thursday to ban the sales of dogs from so-called puppy mills. Pet stores will only be permitted to sell dogs or cats from animal control agencies, city or county shelters, or rescue organizations. There are only three pet stores in the city that sell dogs or cats, and the owners of two of them spoke in opposition to the ban in Thursday's city council meeting.
