A state grant to a San Antonio city agency will fund doctor's visits and medications for local sufferers from opioid addiction. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission granted more than seven-million-dollars to the opioid addiction treatment team at UT Health San Antonio. The new program is called the Texas Medication for Opioid Use Disorder initiative. The disorder is a diagnosed condition treatable with three FDA-approved but regulated drugs. The drugs will be covered, and medical personnel will be trained to prescribe them.
