The number of homicides in San Antonio is decreasing slightly in recent years. In 2019, there were 105 murders in the city. That's down from 107 in 2018 and 125 in 2017. The latest number is nearly a third less than the 2016 toll of 149 murders in San Antonio, which represented an unusual spike. Dallas had more than 200 homicides in 2019 for the first time in more than ten-years, up from 166 just two years earlier. There were 47 murders in Austin last year, more than twice its total of 20 in 2017.
