A city program is helping homeowners and residential landlords remove lead-based paint from their homes. The Green & Healthy Homes initiative is funded by a grant of nearly five-million-dollars from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. About 16-hundred homes have been remediated since the program started in 2000. The new grant extends the program another three-years and will take care of 230 more homes. To qualify, a home must have been built before 1978 and have a child under age six living in it.
