Elf Louise Radiothon A Huge Success

The annual News Radio 1200 WOAI Elf Louise Radiothon and Silent Auction was a huge success thanks donations from WOAI listeners and local benefactors.

Donations are still coming in, but when the Elf Louise Radiothon left the air Saturday night, more than $238,500 had been raised.

It all began as a small, simple project to grant a few Christmas wishes for children in Bexar Country.

The Elf Louise Christmas Project began in 1969 when founder, Louise Locker, was a student at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She found that for many San Antonio families Christmas just did not exist. That first year, with the help of a friend, she collected gifts for children of 13 families.

Since that first year, the Elf Louise Christmas Project has grown into a San Antonio tradition that brings Christmas to approximately 20,000 children each year. Gifts are chosen for each child, wrapped by our volunteers, and delivered by SANTA!!!
