The Department of Defense is awarding a 34-billion-dollar contract to Lockheed Martin to build nearly 500 F-35 fighter jets. The planes are built in Fort Worth, Texas and come in three different versions -- one each for the Navy, Marines and Air Force. The Pentagon pointed out there was nearly a 13 percent cost reduction in the deal to deliver 478 jets.
