Gov. Greg Abbott plans to fill a vacancy on the Texas Supreme Court with a Republican judge who served on a Houston-based appeals court until last fall. Jane Bland sat on the 1st Court of Appeals for 15 years until she was defeated in last year's election. Abbott announced Monday that Bland will replace Justice Jeff Brown, who is President Trump's choice to serve on the federal bench in Galveston. Bland will serve the rest of Brown's term, which ends next year, and will run as the incumbent in the 2020 election.
