Austin's Annual Cap10K Run Canceled Due To Storms

Organizers for this year’s Statesman Cap10K have canceled the event due the weather.

The announcement was posted on the race’s Twitter page Sunday morning. The race usually goes on - rain or shine, but the lightning from the storms would have made the event dangerous for runners.

In the Twitter post, organizers said, "It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that the Cap10K has been canceled. We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience & disappointment. We're disappointed too, but nothing is more important than the safety of our thousands of runners & volunteers along the course."

The Cap10K is known as the largest 10,000 kilometer race in Texas. This year it would have raised money for Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

Cap10K race director, Jeff Simecek, said over 22,600 runners had registered to run in the race.
