The NCAA announced today that the 2021 Women's Final Four will be played at the Alamodome, becoming the second future Final Four received by the Alamo City this year, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"San Antonio will be hosting for the third time after hosing the Women's Final Four in 2002 and 2010," sportscaster Holly Rowe said in making the announcement.
The NCAA earlier this year awarded the 2025 Men's Final Four to San Antonio and, of course, the 2018 Men's Final Four was played at the Alamodome.
Rowe said Texas 'has been very good' to NCAA women's basketball, with the 1985 and 1985 events held in Austin, San Antonio in 2002 and 2010, and in 2017 the event was in Dallas.
"This is great news," Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. "San Antonio is a fan favorite, and our upgrades to the Alamodome are paying off in a big way."
UTSA and Incarnate Word will be co-hosts for the 2021 event.
The all time record crowd for a Women's NCAA Final Four game was in San Antonio when 29,500 fans packed the Alamodome for the event in 2002.
"San Antonio is on a roll," Nirenberg said.
Next year's Women's Final Four will be played in Tampa.
