Police: East Side Man May Have Been Shot For His Shoes

A man was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries after he was shot during what police think was a robbery, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police got the call for gunfire at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Rigsby, which west of W.W. White Road.

Police Chief Bill McManus says the man was shot at least once in the upper torso.

"Police officers arrived and found one man down, he was a male in his late twenties or early thirties," McManus said.  "We're looking at robbery as a possible motive."

McManus said police are looking for several suspects in a grey SUV.

"Right now it appears that the man's shoes were taken," McManus said.  "I don't know if that's the only reason he was shot, but that's what witnesses reported."

McManus says nobody in the apartment complex knows the man.  He said police have 'not been to the location recently.'
