Apartment Resident Shoots Would-Be Car Burglar

Breaking into cars in the parking lot of a northeast side apartment complex turned out to be a really bad idea for one man on the northeast side early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say a man who was attempting to burglarize vehicles at the Veranda Apartments at Jones Maltsburger and Sandalwood, just north of the Quarry Market, was shot by a resident who heard his car alarm go off, and then went out and confronted the would be thief.

The suspect is hospitalized in critical condition.

One police officer said the apartment complex has been plagued with car burglaries lately.

The resident who shot the burglar is not expected to face any charges.
