Pipeline rupture spills thousands of gallons of crude oil in Bastrop County

More than 1,200 barrels of crude oil spilled when a pipeline ruptured in Bastrop County on Thursday morning.

Authorities in Bastrop County say the crude oil spilled when a Longhorn Pipeline Company line ruptured near Shiloh.  As a safety precaution, 15 residences near the site were temporarily evacuated and a section of FM 20 closed.

The  spill is being blamed on a Magellan Midstream Partners contractor who  was performing routine maintenance at the time.  The oil has been contained in a small area around the pipeline release and no crude oil has reached any water. Officials say actions have been taken to contain the crude oil to minimize environmental impact and to ensure public safety.
