Grandfather Gets 60 Years for Killing Grandson

A 60 year old grandfather will be spending his golden years in a maximum security prison cell, after he was convicted in the murder of his own grandson, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Joel Soto was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being convicted of Manslaughter, Arson, and Injury to a Child.

Police say Soto, an admitted meth head, accidentally gave his two year old grandson Jeremy Soto a lethal dose of meth.

Then, to try to cover up the crime, he took Jeremy's little body out to his pickup truck, put it in the passenger seat, doused the vehicle with gasoline, and set it on fire, to try to make it look like the boy died in a vehicle fire.

Since Soto is stupid, the ruse didn't even begin to work.

Investigatiors quickly determined that the little boy died not of the burns, but of injecting meth, and he was dead before Soto put him into the pickup.

Soto has a lengthy criminal history, and prosecutors say he probably won't live long enough to see a parole officer.
