Jury Finds SAPD Officer Not Liable for Shooting

A federal jury today determined that San Antonio Police Officer  Robert Encina did not use excessive force when he shot and killed  Marquise Jones in the drive through lane of a restaurant on  Perrin-Beitel in 2014, News Radio 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports from  the federal courthouse.

Encina was working security at the restaurant when Jones was involved  in a fender bender accident.  When Encina went to investigate, a  disagreement erupted and Encina, claiming Jones was reaching for a gun,  shot him to death.

Jones' family claimed Encina used excessive force, and sued him, the  City of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Police Department, claiming  Encina had been improperly trained.

Encina has already been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.

The death of Jones, 23, became one of he flash points of the Black Lives Matter movement.
