A powerful winter storm slams parts of the Northeast

The powerful winter storm slamming parts of the Northeast is dumping less snow than expected in some major cities.  Forecasters say the storm shifted further west, turning the snow to sleet and ice.  States of emergency were declared in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Connecticut, and blizzard warnings are covering eight states.  Travelers appear to be getting the worst of it.  Flight Aware reports more than six-thousand flights have been cancelled so far and nearly 29-hundred others were delayed.
