I recently came home from a great weekend at the coast to find out my dog had nipped a child who had been trasspassing on my property. Not too long a ago my husband and I installed a brand new privacy fence to ensure the security of my dog. Come to find out because the skin was broken on the child, whom jumped my fence without my knowledge, my dog is now being quarantined and we are accessed a fine of $75.00.
Is this our fault? Why am I being subject to fine for someone who was illegally tresspassing on my property? Do you mean to tell me that is some random stranger jumps into my yard and gets bitten or scratched by my dog, my dog can be put down while I am charged a fine? I would understand if my dog was running around in the street and because of my negligence accessed a fine.
Not only is she being quarantined but they have made it clear to my family that not being a fixed dog we also have to pay a $50.00 a year fee. Yes, you heard me right; we have to pay a yearly fee to keep her , "intact". I find this ridiculous.
For all you dog owners out there, beware of the dog law, check your insurance policies, and make sure you have a good attorney when owning a dog. And by the way, my dog is a Labrador retriever whom we've cared for and owned for four years. Two of those years of which she has had a great relationship with my two year old daughter.
