AUSTIN, TX - Yahoo Sports is reporting Texas sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo has been suspended for the rest of the season following an NCAA investigation.

For the past several months the NCAA has been looking into Kabongo's eligibility following allegations that he received impermissible gifts.

The issue arose after Kabongo considered declaring for the NBA draft last June following the season, but ultimately he chose to stay in Austin.

Yahoo sports says one element of the investigation revolves around if agent Rich Paul played a role in Kabongo last spring traveling to Cleveland in which he may have been involved with at least one workout with a New York-based professional trainer, Jerry Powell. The issue was who paid for Kabongo's travel and expenses -- and if Powell's training was free of cost.

The loss of Kabongo has hurt Texas on the young season, as Kabongo would have been the Longhorns most experienced returning player.

Kabongo started 34 games last season, averaging 9.6 points and 3.0 rebounds but has not played in any games this year.
