RICHARDSON, Texas (AP) — Dallas Mavericks assistant coach and former player Popeye Jones is free on bond after his arrest for allegedly driving drunk.
Police in the northern Dallas suburb of Richardson say motorists reported a sport-utility vehicle being driven erratically about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. When officers found it, the SUV had stopped with Jones at the wheel.
Spokesman Jonathan Wakefield said Jones declined a breath test, but officers observed he appeared to be intoxicated. When they tried to arrest him, a minor struggle ensued and Jones was taken to the ground, causing minor facial cuts.
Jones is charged with driving while intoxicated, but Wakefield said he won't be charged with resisting arrest.
An e-mail from The Associated Press to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban hasn't been answered. However, Cuban declined to comment on Jones' case in an e-mail to The Dallas Morning News on Monday.
