A late second-period goal by Jason Spezza proved
to be the difference, as the Ottawa Senators edged the Calgary Flames, 3-2, at
Scotiabank Place.
Alex Kovalev and Jarkko Ruutu also scored for the Senators, who rebounded from
a 5-0 loss Saturday in Toronto. The setback snapped Ottawa's 11-game winning
streak, a franchise record.
Ottawa goalie Brian Elliott stopped 27 shots.
Niklas Hagman and Matt Stajan both had a goal and an assist for the Flames,
who finished 1-1-1 on their road trip. Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss with a
28-save effort.
Hagman took a feed from Jarome Iginla and whipped a shot from the middle of
the ice that beat Elliott on the glove side with 3:09 remaining in the first
period.
Kovalev tied the game 19 seconds later on the power play.
Stajan restored the lead at the 3:18 mark of the middle stanza, but Ruutu
answered six minutes later, capitalizing on a turnover in the Calgary zone.
Ottawa moved ahead 3-2 on a Spezza one-timer with 3:23 left in the second
period.
