The Boston Bruins will aim to halt a three-game losing
streak tonight, when they host the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden.
The Bruins have been outscored 5-1 over their skid, as they were shut out in
back-to-back games by the Rangers and Red Wings before Thursday's 2-1 shootout
loss to the rival Canadiens.
Boston, which endured a scoreless run of 192 minutes and six seconds, got a
goal out of Patrice Bergeron in regulation and 25 saves from Tim Thomas. Zdeno
Chara and Derek Morris assisted on the game-trying goal, which came with 52
seconds left in the third.
"Stay positive. I know sometimes it's hard to do and easy to say," Bergeron
said of his club's attitude during the recent stretch. "We have to make sure
its in here. Everyone has to step up."
Boston began a four-game homestand without David Krejci, who was diagnosed
with swine flu. The Bruins fell to 4-4-1 as the host and aim to avoid their
first four-game slide since February 7-14 of last season.
Buffalo, meanwhile, lost for just the second time in seven games (5-2-0) last
night at home, where it suffered a 5-2 setback to Philadelphia.
Derek Roy and Tyler Myers both netted power-play goals, while Roy added an
assist for the Sabres. Playing in his 499th career game, Tim Connolly notched
his 300th career point with an assist.
Ryan Miller ended with 32 saves.
"We didn't establish a forecheck early on," said Roy. "We came out a little
better in the second period, but they got that goal and it put a damper on our
game."
The Northeast Division-leading Sabres won their first four road games of the
season before suffering a 5-0 blanking at the hands of the Islanders last
Saturday. Buffalo's next two games are at home following this contest.
The Sabres have won six of their last eight over the Bruins, taking three of
their last five trips to Boston.
