The Columbus Blue Jackets named John Davidson as the club's president of hockey operations on Wednesday.

Davidson had served as the St. Louis Blues' president the past six years, transforming the team from a 34-35-13 record in 2006-07 to a club that went 49-22-11 last season and finished in first place of the Western Conference's Central Division.

The Blues were eventually swept by the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the playoffs and St. Louis bought out the remainder of Davidson's contract on Oct 9.

Davidson, who was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 for his broadcasting work, appeared in 301 career games at goalie for the Blues and New York Rangers from 1973-83.

He will now look to turn around a Columbus team that finished with an NHL- worst record of 29-46-7 last season.
