Clearwater, FL (Sports Network) - Hector Luna's two-run homer highlighted a five-run seventh inning Wednesday as the Philadelphia Phillies opened spring training with a 6-1 win over Florida State.
Luna's blast came with two outs against Mack Waugh (0-1), who took the loss in the exhibition game, and gave the Phillies their 6-1 lead.
Phillies reliever J.C. Ramirez (1-0) allowed a run on a wild pitch that tied the game 1-1 in the top of the seventh, but was bailed out by the offense a half-inning later to pick up the win.
Austin Hyatt started for Philadelphia and struck out three Seminoles in two perfect innings. Florida State starter Luke Weaver fanned a batter during a spotless first inning.
The Phillies, coming off a crushing loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS, are 4-0 all-time against the Seminoles. Tyson Gillies scored two of their six runs.
Earlier, the Phillies said first baseman Ryan Howard, recovering from Achilles surgery, had a procedure Monday to clean out an infection and denied that he had a setback in his recovery. Howard was injured on the final play of the NLDS.
