Recap: Austin Peay vs. Samford

Clarksville, TN (Sports Network) - Chris Freeman came off the bench to register a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as he helped guide the Austin Peay Governors to a 75-64 win over the Samford Bulldogs in the season-opener at Dave Aaron Arena.

Will Triggs added 15 points and seven boards for the Governors (1-0), followed by Anthony Campbell and Travis Betran who tallied 13 points apiece.

The Bulldogs (0-1) were paced by Tim Williams who registered a game-high 23 points and also cleared 10 boards for the visitors. Raijon Kelly chipped in 11 points and handed out seven assists, although he shot only 5-of-15 from the floor.

Samford scored the first points of the night on a jumper by Williams, but then Austin Peay rattled off 13 straight to take the lead and eventually put up a 38-28 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Bulldogs managed to make just 1-of-12 shots from behind the three-point line, allowing APSU to capture the double-digit victory.

The visitors had quite a bit of trouble on the perimeter as they converted just 2-of-24 chances from beyond the arc.
