When the national media wants to know what's happening in Texas, they turn to WOAI's Michael Board.
Since 1997, Mike has been covering news all across the southwest, winning awards for his work and being featured on television (CNN, Fox News, Headline News) and national Radio (Fox News Radio, CBS News, ABC News, BBC).
Growing up in Massachusetts, Mike would stay up late, listening to the radio, and trying to see what stations he could tune in on his tiny, bedside receiver. Reports from Boston, New York and even Chicago would be the stuff that fueled his dreams.
After high school, Mike ran away to the American Southwest, where he fell in love with the culture while attending the University of Arizona. Finding his voice on student radio, he eventually landed a job with Clear Channel's KNST News after finishing school, where he majored in Journalism and minored in Political Science.
Mike was covering stories about immigration and border politics long before the national leaders made it their focal point. He also interviewed Senator John McCain long before he took his role as on of the most prominent republicans in the country.
After five years working in Tucson and Phoenix, Mike was hired by CBS radio to work in San Antonio. His reporting caught the eye of WOAI, who offered him a job to return to Clear Channel and work in their award winning newsroom.
In his free time, Mike loves traveling, cooking and hiking in the Hill Country with his wife, Tracy. He's an avid skier and golfer who tries his best to say healthy, even though he might eat too many enchiladas!
