Beautiful shapes and brilliant colors help to make this a stunning image. The way the photographer placed the subject to the right of the image creates a nice sense of space. The brilliant red gives a great backdrop to the monarch butterfly accentuating its shape and the patterns in its wings. Also the slightly out of focus background makes the subject look even sharper. (Debbie Karnes, Copyright 2009 Debbie Karnes)

SAN ANTONIO -- The zoo has lost a little bit of its color. But just for a little while. The San Antonio Zoo's butterfly exhibit has closed for the winter.

With temperatures dropping the butterflies would become immobile if they stayed here in San Antonio.

Ironically, they're being shipped up north to a conservatory in Minnesota that will be safer for them.
