SAN ANTONIO -- While construction continues on the major renovations, local students are taking center stage in front of the ongoing renovation of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

"I'm very proud of the work we did," said Student Erica Hernandez. "I really like it."

The unveiling of the 36 pieces of artwork revealed there is something for everyone at the Tobin Center.

"It means something to the city," explained Omar Leos of the San Antonio Independent School District Theatre & Visual Arts Department. "To the city that cares for them. And, eventually, this Tobin Center for the Performing Arts will belong to them."

Wednesday was about local San Antonio ISD students, more than 280 young artists painted their interpretation of what the performing arts means to them.

The whole idea of the exhibit was to show the ongoing commitment the Tobin Center has to everyone in the city.

"What strikes me is the passion these kids have that they brought to the project," said David Green of the Tobin Center.

The public and privately funded project is on budget and on schedule. In fact, the exposed shell will be completed in May and construction on the inside will then begin. The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts will be completed in September of 2014.
