Police say the man identified as Abditfatah Jodah, 23, was driving the wrong way when the collision occurred at Interstate 35 and Eisenhauer Road around 3:15 a.m.

Authorities say the 18-wheeler caught fire and spilled its diesel tanks causing a HAZMAT situation. The 18-wheeler’s rig is reported to have exploded several times and fully engulfed within a couple of minutes.

A part of the expressway was closed down for cleanup for close to five hours.

The driver of the 18-wheeler did not have any injuries, police said, but his passenger sustained minor injuries. Jodah suffered serious injuries and will be charged with DWI once he’s released from the hospital. police said.
