Worker dies after falling into machine at seat belt plant

SAN ANTONIO -- A worker at a seat belt manufacturing plant died after he fell into a press machine Monday morning.

The accident happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. at Takata Seat Belts Manufacturing in the 4600 block of Wiseman. A spokesperson for the San Antonio Fire Department said the 40-year-old worker got caught in the press machine and was not breathing when crews arrived.

The man's name has not been released.

Takata is one of the world's largest makers of safety restraint systems for automobiles. It produces 20 percent of all seat belts and 10 percent of all air bags used in cars manufactured in North America.
