SAN ANTONIO -- A woman was struck and killed as she tried to cross Highway 90 Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 7:10 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Highway 90 near Military Drive. Police say the woman was trying to run from the Lackland side of the highway to the other side when she was hit.

A 45-year-old man driving a gray Dodge Avenger told officers he was traveling behind a black Dodge pickup truck in the left lane when the truck came to a sudden stop. The driver said he swerved into the center lane to avoid hitting the truck and immediately spotted a woman run out into the center lane in front of his car. The driver told officers he slammed on his brakes but was unable to stop in time.

The woman died at the scene.

No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

Ok, how many does that make this year? They should make crossing an interstate highway on foot illegal... Oh wait - IT ALREADY IS!!!

I almost hit a woman on US Highway 90 west on Sunday night just pass Club Fuego. Luckily I wasn't speeding and was able to slow down, the driver in the right lane had to slam on their brakes and the lady panicked and jumped back into my lane (center lane) causing me to have to slam on my brakes. This area is well known for people crossing over ALL the time. This is not my first time almost hitting someone here. The City and TXDOT need to take action.

Seems to me that this lady thought she could cross anywhere she wanted and that all traffic was going to stop for her just because she was in a wheelchair. Obviously, she thought wrong and now she's dead-wrong.

ARE you kidding me. Are this many people REALLY that simple minded? So somewhere along the way this lady thought, "Let me risk my life and possibly bring tragedy to my family and friends to save some time from walking to the designated crosswalk" or was it more like "Crossing a major highway in which thousands of pounds of metal are traveling at 65 MPH or MORE is a GREAT idea!" SMH. Okay- we're supposed to feel bad for the family and all that and not say mean things- I get it- condolences. TOTALLY avoidable though had this woman had an OUNCE of common sense.

Why would she cross on a busy intersection??? It's plan to see she did not have the right of way to cross. Everyone , learn from this womans accident!!! Do not attempt to cross on any busy intrsections!!!! Walking or in your electric scooter. IDIOTS!

Yes it is a walk to go to military and use the cross walks, but common on! Is a little exercise and time worth the time and YOUR LIFE! Now because she was breaking the law by crossing a major highway and being lazy she not only ended her life she has ruined the drivers life that hit her. There is a lesson to be learned here and it is not the drivers on highway 90 that need to learn this lesson, it is those that need to get from one side to the other. Use the safe routes mapped out by city managers. There is a reason there is a 6 foot chain link fence between the two directions of traffic!

People need to stop crossing the highway at any stretch. What is that the fourth one or so this week/two weeks?
