SAN ANTONIO -- A man was shot and killed by a police officer Friday morning after investigators say the man shot his ex-girlfriend.

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Alfredo Aragon, and the ex-girlfriend has been identified as 27-year-old Abigail Jean Hernandez.

According to investigators San Antonio Police Department officer Michael Garza said he received a call from Hernandez saying she feared Aragon was going to hurt her and asked the officer Garza to come get her. San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus said the officer picked up Hernandez and drove her to her apartment on Micron Drive.

When the two arrived at the apartment complex, Hernandez spotted her ex-boyfriend's car. The officer and the woman decided to leave the gated community. But while they were waiting for the gate to open, Aragon reportedly walked up and opened fire on them. The officer said Aragon then got back into his vehicle and began chasing them and firing his gun at them. At some point, Hernandez was shot twice, once in the arm and once in the torso.

Investigators say the officer called in, said he was being shot at, and asked for assistance. He then followed the ex-boyfriend to his home on Field Wood, where the officer ended up shooting the ex-boyfriend at least once, killing him.

"He was so great to me and my sisters, I'm so thankful for the 16 years I had with him, " said daughter Sarina Aragon. The 16-year old said she was home at the time when her father was shot and killed along with her younger siblings.

"His life was dedicated to his children, it was just a bad situation that he got caught up in, and I'm just so devastated that it had to end this way, " said Aragon's ex-wife Cherlyn McDougal.

Aragon leaves behind three daughters and a son. He also owned Alamo Computer Solutions.

Abigail Hernandez was taken University Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

they ended up back at aragons house because Abigail thought her son was inside... if he could try and kill his sons mother out of anger and hate who knows what he could have done to his own son!

The "Victim" here is Abigail Hernandez and the Police Officer that the 'shooter' shot at.... Let's Not get confused here... The Shooter made a choice and attempted to shoot and kill two innocent people... Those Two people are "VICTIMS"... The shooter made a bad decision He is responsible for whatever happened to him.

@ashleydlc. If you knew Alfred then you must have known about his terrible temper and horrible threats he was constantly making to abigail. records show the many police reports that she had filed againts him and documents provided to her lawyer about his "crazyness". this story is very sad for everyone involved but that man should have never been allowed to own a gun

If you bring the fight to someone and attempt to KILL them... then from that point on anything that happens to the aggressor is his own fault... Too bad so Sad... Abigail did not have a gun and she was shot, so Nothing anyone can say can change that fact.

@concerned I definitely see where you are coming from as I feel for his girls and baby boy however we need to remember that NONE of this would have happend had Alfred not been at her apartment waiting with a gun.

@Ashleydlc I knew the actual "victim" which IS the deceased, and we don't know (and may never know) exactly what happened and who fired 1st. My initial reaction is to keep on open mind. We've all been fooled before in trusting a police officer's statement in which they had to use deadly force. But this officer gunned the "victim" down at his front door rather than waiting for backup. The officer, it seemed, was no longer threatened. The real victims are the deceased kids, in which three of his girls where inside the home.

@thinkaboutit Well at the time of the childs birth I doubt she had any idea he was capable of seriously harming anyone. I knew both of them ( the victim and deceased) He seemed like a completely normal man with a decent job and took care of his kids. She was not only smart enough to get out of the relationship, but smart enough to have a police officer escort her home because she knew something wasnt right. I am thankful the cop was there to save her life, other her ex waiting with a gun might have had a better chance to do what he came to do. I think until everyone gets all the details we should not speculate that the cop abused his powers.
