SAN ANTONIO -- Homicide detectives were called to the scene of a house fire early Wednesday after a woman and young girl were found dead inside the home.

Fire crews responded to the 200 block of Karen Lane near Rittiman on the Northeast Side around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.  By the time firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Arson investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.

Investigators say the body of the woman was found in a side bedroom during a primary search of the home. Officials say she was murdered before the fire was set. They have not released any more details about her death.

The second victim, an 11-year-old little girl, was found in a back bedroom under debris during a secondary search. Officials are calling her death "suspicious."

Police are now searching for the woman's estranged husband. Neighbors say there was a history of domestic disputes between the two. Police did confirm to News 4 WOAI officers were called to the home within the last month to respond to one of those disputes.

Arson dogs were called to the scene to determine if accelerants were used to start the fire.

Neighbors say the home was used as a child care center during the day, and the woman found dead inside the home cared for the children.

It is a sad story and even more sad since the police had responded to a domestic dispute within a month. Why do we continue to have adults in domestic disputes just cool down and then release them to go into yet another violent event. The cycle continues until one is dead and in this case an innocent child most likely hiding from the violent dispute. There are hundreds more out there, Whites, Blacks and Hispanics. It is a sad story.

I have a really hard time fathoming a parent killing a child, which could possibly be the case here. Estranged husband kills the wife, then sets the house on fire without regard to his child...........or had he already killed her, too. I guess we won't know until the autopsy. @ Superspurs: I agree........but don't let Twister2 read your or my response or we'll be in for a battle because he won't agree with us!!! There IS a reason for the death penalty!!! For those that say it isn't a deterent..............that's probably because too many of those in our society that commit these capital offense crimes don't care about any life, including their own, and there are plenty of reasons for that......which are too numerous to go into here, at this moment.

This is why we have the death penalty in this state.

Truly tragic... God will look after them now, and punish the despicable person that did this.

What a sad story. :-( Details will emerge soon, but if it was indeed a child and the fire was intentionally set, I'm so sorry for this child.
