LOCKHART, Texas -- A woman was killed Sunday when the car she was driving was hit by another vehicle on Texas 130 toll road.

Investigators say 60-year-old Martha Melinda Harris was entering the southbound lanes in the 1100 block of State Highway 130, when a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes collided with hers. The other vehicle hit side of Harris' car, striking her driver side door.

Harris died at the scene. The two people traveling in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries and were later released.

How could you draw any conclusions with the information given in this news report? This News organization wants you to think it was due to the 85 mph speed limit. Typical media BS.

As far as I know, you can legally go 55 m.p.h. on any highway in Texas. Just keep to the far right lane. The posted speed limit is generally the maximum speed allowed, not the average, or the minimum (as the kind officers will remind you after they have pulled you over).

210bro: Thanks for thinking of us "slow drivers". I, too, used to drive and obey the speed limits and sometimes drove over! Now, I am disabled and still have a valid driver's license, but I decided to stop driving because I don't trust myself because of my illness, and am afraid I will goof and kill an innocent person(s). I think of the new 85 mph speed limit, and I shiver! Even though I have a very hard time when riding the bus, I would rather someone else drives. I have been turned down by VIA Trans, twice, but I plan to appeal. Again, thanks for speaking for us, SLOW, CAREFUL, AND NON-ALCOHOLIC drivers.

Actually the law is if you are entering ANY freeway you need to be as close to the speed limit on the road you are entering, and that those on the freeway should move left if they can do so safely. Nothing chaps me more than people slamming on their brakes on entrance ramps. A close second is people that think they have the right to drive far too slow on the freeways..In many states they will ticket you for impeding traffic before they'll pull someone over for speeding. And 210bro..There is a minimum on all highways in Texas, it 10 under the posted. So the minimum on Highway 130 is 75. Oh..and I was pulled over on 130 for dong 90 and given a stern warning that speeding on this road WILL NOT be tolerated.

210bro - Try crawling on the interstate entrance in front of a police car. They will stop you and ticket you for endangering the populus. According to the Texas drivers book, you must accelerate and attain the speed to which you may enter the traffic safely. If you can't do that, because some jerk won't slow down an iota to let you in, you just have to wait until you see an entrance. The 85MPH is maximum speed but there is also a minimum speed to which you must obey or be stopped for endangerment. Yes, they pay a toll but that doesn't give them the right to endanger everyone else sharing that same road.

gripe all you want about slow drivers, but if they pay a toll they have just as much right to the road as anyone else. 85 is the limit, not the minimum.

Here we go. The 85 mph tollway will get constantly reported on..everytime there's a wreck we'll hear about it. Nevermind the hundreds of wrecks a day on all the "free" roads. Hey, let's make news where there is none.

Well, not that I find this surprising, I really thought the first wrecks would be due to hogs and deer. Amen WhoodaThunk, that would go for these crawlers getting on any of the freeways around here. I don't know how many times I've said to myself, "I know good and well that car you are driving has a gas pedal. USE IT!" It causes threats for everyone on the road at the time.
