SAN ANTONIO -- A woman was critically injured when she was run over by a truck on the Northeast Side Thursday.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Northeast Loop 410, between Starcrest and Perrin Beitel. The 25-year-old woman was walking westbound on the sidewalk in front of the Saddlewood Apartments, when she was run over by a Dodge Dakota that was exiting from the apartment complex onto the access road.

News 4 was told the 32-year-old driver looked to his left for approaching vehicles but apparently failed to look to the right for any pedestrians. The driver, who did not know what he hit, immediately pulled over and stopped.

The woman, who suffered life-threatening head injuries, was rushed by EMS to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC).

My sister has god on her side she is making some improvements. She is a fighter and will overcome this. Shes beaten the odds before, @ the age of three she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer n my mother was told she wouldn't live past 7 n she fought n won. Then @ 9 she was in remission but was told she was top sterile to ever have kids n now her daughter is 3. I know she will fight this. Thank you all for your concerns god bless.

I NEVER take for granted a driver's intentions when they're sitting at a light or preparing to turn (or at all, in truth). I want to see where they're looking to know that I've been seen & considered. Sort of hard to do with darkened windows, but I still watch the eyes/head of the driver. I do the same when I'm crossing the street or a parking lot on foot. One cannot take for granted that the driver of the vehicle is careful, aware, caring, or NOT distracted!!

Or was she walking across or down the street? Besides SA favorite pastime, DWI driving, a second favorite pastime is pedestrians ditching crosswalks in favor of getting run over shuffling across the street. Too few details as usual?

Driving distracted or stoned is what comes to mind. So many crashes are really avoidable, I hope she gets better.
