SAN ANTONIO-- The ex-girlfriend of a man on trial for killing her mother and younger sister testified against him in court Tuesday.

Candice Moten told jurors she watched 32-year-old James Morrison gun down her mother and younger sister outside their apartment back in April of 2009. Candice told jurors Morrison came to their home and slashed tires on her family's two vehicles. She claims when they came out to confront him, Morrison pulled out a gun and started firing even after her mom yelled out, “I’m not dead yet.”

“He shot us, period, and then she yelled out, and he came back and shot more," Candice Moten said. "He shot more after she yelled at him.”

Moten, who was 5 months pregnant at the time, was also shot. Moten lost the baby.

Morrison is charged with capital murder. The defense claims Morrison acted in self defense and told jurors Morrison feared for his own life because the women each weighed more than 240 pounds and were aggressive and violent.
