SAN ANTONIO - Sandra Briggs, 59, was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Friday after she was convicted of killing San Antonio Police Officer Sergio Antillon.

“I argued for the life sentence, all the while knowing it was going to be hard for the jury to do something like that,“ said District Attorney Susan Reed.

Reed told News 4 WOAI she was satisfied with the sentence.

It took a jury several hours to come to a decision.

Officer Antillon was 25 years old when he was run down by Briggs in a drunk driving accident back in October of 2010.

Antillon's family told Briggs inside the courtroom Friday night that they forgive her for the deadly crash.

The jury declared Sandra Briggs’ car was used as a deadly weapon. Briggs sat emotionless as the sentence was read.

“The poor family had a family member ripped apart for something that was so needless,“ added Reed.

How soul-less are you to sit emotionless?? You murdered someone, lady...the least you could do is ACT like you're sorry.

The two past comments are true. The problem of putting a convicted DWI driver in jail is that it costs the county money. If they take a plea they pay court cost an a sundry of other fees and fines. The truth is that the criminal justice system in San Antonio/Bexar County is an income producer. Do you know most of the fees against drinking establishment usually involve closing for a week and a $300 fine. While a traffic ticket now in San Antonio is about $150. And if the drinking establishment serves someone and then they kill someone driving home, they are immune from being sued. You tell me what is fair, and how and to who the cards are stacked!

Every individual in this community deserves the same attention as this young officer. Reed and McManus are gradstanding and obviously a lot of us are tired of it! where is Trevino? he has disappeared as did any kind of justice for Maria Rodriguez and HER family. The average sentence for DWI murder is about 8 years. why? well we must remember that FIESTA and all the other beer guzzling events sponsored by the City of SA reaps in loads of money. How many will be murdered this year after Oyster Bake? Yes, keep 'em drunk, poor and uneducated works in this community. EVERY drunk driver should be sentenced to 45 years including police officers! as long as we continue to allow Sculley to run the city and Reed the courthouse this type of in-justice will continue.

I feel bad for the police officers family, however, when its the other way around, the police officer doesn't get 45 years, he gets off.

Now if Susan Reid would only do this to all DWI cases..take no plea agreements, even if it cost us more to build a jail just for DWI convicts..The fines should be so severe for the first offense that no one would want to take a chance..Their license should be revoked, forever. No work license granted..the plate pulled for three years from the car used..no questions nor excuses to get it back..and the fine should be no less than 50k..and one year full 365 days, from conviction, no credit for time served..and then made to work..with all monies going towards the fine..and loss of any public assistance until all of the sentence is completed..then maybe people would stop thinking they can still drive while drunk..Driving is a privilege, not a right.

While I do agree that Sandra Briggs should be punished, I do not agree with the 45 year sentence. I believe that she would be an ideal candidate for shock probation, and hope that the judge in this case has the blindness in justice to see to it. As I have said before, DWI generates a lot of money for the City of San Antonio, the County of Bexar, as well as for the State of Texas. If Susan Reed really wants to put a dent in DWI why does she not adopt a total zero tolerance policy on DWI. If you are arrested for DWI you do the maximum time in jail, pay the maximum fine, and do not get a conditional license to go to work. You pay the price for your indiscretion. There is no drivers license period until you pay your fines as well as restitution in full. Maybe then the Via buses that you see with only five passengers will start to be utilized. Instead of having Sandra Briggs occupy a bed in state prison, I would much rather see the piece of trash female, that was in the car with Khalfani Baskin and his little blood gang member hoodlum associate that attempted to do a home invasion which resulted in the the overdue death of Khalfani Baskin, who should have been flushed down the toilet at birth, and the wounding of his gang member associate, occupy a prison cell for forty five years rather than a woman in her late fifties who probably would have never committed another crime in her life.

spursrule McManus was brought to San Antonio as a yes man. The moral in SAPD is at an all time low. He brought his silly hat and puckering lips to San Antonio to help promote Limpburgers agenda. If you noticed all city department heads were replaced within a year and a half. City auditors were flying out the door too. City spending has sky rocketed. And how many citizens have died by the hands of over zealous specially trained Police officers. Internal affairs at SAPD is a joke. Gabe Trevino is a walking joke. Time to say bye bye to all the politicians and Department heads. Google this Scull ey and Kevin Keo ugh and tell me what you see. Want a yes person, have something on them!

In March of 2010, SAPD Gabe Trevino collided with Maria Rodriguez. Thus killing her. A grand jury declined to indict Trevino in the case but he was suspended for 10 days after an investigation by the Department of Public Safety and SAPD found he failed to control his speed. At the time of the crash, the officers noted his failure to yield right of way and Davila's failure to use evasive action as possible contributing factors to the crash. Was Susan Reed pursuing the case? No. Did you See Chief McManus consoling the Rodriguez family? No

spursrule You are right. So many details so little time. How many years did her driver get for those SW Airline tickets. How many remember when the city went to Orlando to try and get the Marlins in San Antonio? Mayor Hard(limp)burger and city council went along with Reed. Oh wait that was the time of the SW Airline tickets and SW flies to Orlando???????
