SAN ANTONIO – Flu season arrived early this year with widespread outbreaks reported in more than 40 states, including Texas.
News 4 WOAI spent several hours researching the best prices on Tamiflu to help save you time and money if you get the flu.
People like Yana Kaplan are flooding urgent care clinics. She’s worried she has the flu.
"I think every member of my household has been here and today it's my turn,” Kaplan says.
Just last week, her son was diagnosed with the flu and got a prescription for Tamiflu.
"Our normal pharmacy didn't have it,” Kaplan says. “We had to wait a day to get it filled at a different pharmacy."
Pharmacies all around town told News 4 they are out of liquid Tamiflu but have restocked the capsule form of the medication.
Plenty of capsule boxes are on the shelves, and how much you pay depends on your insurance plan.
But what if you don’t have insurance?
You’ll pay the most at Walgreens – about $137 for a box of Tamiflu.
HEB wasn’t far behind at $136 a box.
CVS Pharmacy was a lot cheaper at about $120 box.
But the place with the cheapest price was Walmart: $117 for Tamiflu.
Doctors are urging patients to get a flu shot if they haven’t already. But remember, it takes a couple of weeks to kick in, and that’s about how much time we have until the typical peak of flu season in late January and early February.
