SAN ANTONIO- Fed up with drug dealing, prostitution and homicides, west side neighbors are sticking together to take back the streets. Members of the Westend Hope Action Organization are demanding more police presence and patrols in the area to cut down on crime.

Several dozen people attended a meeting Monday night at the Frank Garrett Community Center, where they shared their safety concerns with San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

Even churches are not immune to crime. Rev. Charlie Wingfield, of the Harper's Chapel Baptist Church, said he and church members have to pick up underwear, condoms and drug needles from outside the church before services Sunday morning.

Chief McManus promised action but said residents needed to list every single concern, ranging from drug crimes to overgrown lots so the city could target the area with different departments to make the area safer.

It's trully sorry that San Antonio has evolved into to this during the 38 years that our family has been here, but just look at why? The schools on many sides of our city don't promote working class citizens, but high-powered criminals. And having been a high school teacher in the SAISD,a major problem is their parents, who can't be contacted, are a major part of our problem. For those parents, who totally ignore their parental duties, school is a recess for them to forget about their kids, and home in on themselves big time. No food to cook, no honest questions to answer, just a relaxing time to while-away 9to3 and watch Mucho-Gobs of TV, and talk to friends, and then wait for their "loving child" to come home...and say..."I'm really busy now, why don't you go out and do something?
