SAN ANTONIO- Fed up with drug dealing, prostitution and homicides, west side neighbors are sticking together to take back the streets. Members of the Westend Hope Action Organization are demanding more police presence and patrols in the area to cut down on crime.
Several dozen people attended a meeting Monday night at the Frank Garrett Community Center, where they shared their safety concerns with San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
Even churches are not immune to crime. Rev. Charlie Wingfield, of the Harper's Chapel Baptist Church, said he and church members have to pick up underwear, condoms and drug needles from outside the church before services Sunday morning.
Chief McManus promised action but said residents needed to list every single concern, ranging from drug crimes to overgrown lots so the city could target the area with different departments to make the area safer.
