SAN ANTONIO -- It will be cold and rainy for most of this week. But not too long ago, we were suffering though 100-plus degree heat with little to no chance of rain. So if you wanted your lawn to survive, you had to water it.

All of that watering meant you were paying San Antonio Water System more money, even with water restrictions in place.

News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Mireya Villarreal decided to check the balance of the SAWS bank account. Click on the video to check out her story.

I live in California and retired from the Local Water Company my daughter lives right outside San Antonio and was on water restrictions too. I never gave it a thought 25 years before I worked for a water company about water and what it took to get it to homes and business's, you turn the faucet on and there it was all the time. The average consumer feels the same way I am sure, just be grateful for every drop you get. The infastructure of a Major Water Company, is very complicated about the quality of the water, and the huge maintenamce it takes to keep all that water running through thousands of miles of underground pipes, reservoirs, backflow requiremnts (for health reasons),water meters, and constant customer calls regarding there bills being to high! Be grateful you don't live in South Africa,India,Iraq Afghanistan and the hundreds of countries that DO NOT HAVE CLEAN WATER. Just stop and think how often your turn on your water, flush the toilets, gardening and just letting the water run so kids can play in it. San Antonio runs out of water what do you then, I always told everyone bottle water is the most expensive thing you can drink, most companies sell water to homeowners and business's by (HCF hundred cubic feet = 748 gallons) Out here I pay $1.65 per hcf (748 gallons)just stop and think how much a fancy bottle of water would be if you bought 748 gallons of it...{you would need a bank loan} the cost would have no comparison to normal potable water cost. Be grateful San Antonians..for the wet and wonder water that you have everyday. YOU DON'T MISS THE WATER UNTIL THE WELL RUNS DRY. SAWS,works every day to make your life easier, what they charge is nothing in comparison to a day with out water is worth. I now pay my Water Bill gladly here every month, because I know what it takes to get it to my home and everyone around me too. SO Stop and Think about everytime you turn on that faucet...conserve when you can. Sincerely Diana Garcia, West Covina Ca.
